The Bucks County Classic is coming up on September 13th and 14th in southeastern PA, and will include some of the best racers in the US. One of the teams that will be competing is a group of ladies I’ve had a chance to work with plenty of times this year, the Fearless Femme Cycling Team. These women come from all walks of life, and have had a very successful year, led by veteran Tina Pic. Their distinctive orange jerseys are easy to pick out in a peloton, and really pop in pictures. If you have a chance to catch the road race on Saturday from Doylestown to New Hope, or the Thompson Criterium on Sunday in Doylestown, make sure to cheer for the Fearless Femmes in orange!
Following the amateurs, the women took to the streets for the Avante Salon Pro Women’s Criterium at the Iron Hill Twilight Criterium. A break containing Amy Cutler (FCS|Zngine p/b Mr. Restore), Kacey Lloyd (Fearless Femme p/b Pure Energy Cycling-Vie13) Laura Van Gilder (Mellow Mushroom p/b Pink Siren Sports) and Mary Zider (Colavita-Fine Cooking). The breakaway caught the back end of the field as they crossed the line with one lap to go for the leaders, two for the field. Since everyone finishes on the lead lap, there was some confusion, but quick action by an observant Christina Birch (Fearless Femme p/b Pure Energy Cycling-Vie13) got her sprinter Colleen Hayduk to the front to take the bunch sprint for fifth place. Van Gilder crossed the line to take the win, with Cutler, Lloyd, and Zider following close behind.
